Sassychix Makeup Class (Batch 1)

Ive had quite a number of people msg me asking me to teach them makeup and its application.

Thus Im offering a lil class to ensure all you darlings out there get to learn the basics, and a little more, about makeup, at a nominal fee.
I paid a hefty $4000++ for my Dip @ Cosmoprof but I’m offering you FULL ‘Makeup-only’ lessons at a fraction of the price! Along with this class, you get a goodie bag filled with cosmetics that I find are a total must-have for every makeup fanatic.

The next class is most likely to begin in Mid/Late september

Ifra’s Prom Night

Ifra called me few days back asking if I was free on Wednesday evening to do her makeup. When I asked her what for. She replied with a giggle “Prom Night”. I was thrilled for her! Every girl waits for her high school prom night (or graduation night as some schools call it).

So I raced home after work and she was already there, waiting in anticipation =]

No shots of her in the dress cuz she was going to pick up her friends and then dress up and go together.

I decided to give her a soft but shimmery gold look. Mainly cuz she’s only 16 and I didnt wanna make it over the top.

NDP 2007 Rehearsals

Today was our 2nd day at NDP Rehearsals for Makeup and I have to admit, I’m pretty thankful I took a break from the next Saturday’s rehearsal. It was painful, having to stand and bend to apply face paint on the participants for abt 4 hours. And to make matters worse, it was drizzling, and the ground became.. ugh… muddy =/

Full face/body silver painting by the cosmoprof girls. I can’t imagine how these two performers are gonna wash off all the paint..lol

On my first day at NDP, as I was being led by our leader to another designated area, I saw a girl wearing a teeshirt with the words CHIJ-SJC printed on its back and then I saw another girl with the same tee shirt, and soon a whole bunch of ‘em! A big sense of excitement overcame me cuz that was MY secondary school! And never in my 4 years in that school, did I ever imagine that our school would be in NDP! I didn’t get time last week to check out which teachers were with them, but today, i randomly picked out an SJC-ian and asked her which teachers were there with them today. Most of the teachers she mentioned didn’t ring a bell. And I was disappointed cuz I was really hoping I’d see my previous teachers. But as we were dolling up the SJC-ians today afternoon, a familiar face caught my sight and I ran up to her and we embraced in a warm hug. It was one of my favourite teachers when I did Arts for my O’s. Ms Iris Teh. She still looked exactly the same! She pointed out other teachers to me and I smiled at those I recalled. It was a nice thing, ya know. People who helped nurture you during your growing years =]
I guess you don’t really miss school till you leave it…

NDP 2007 Rehearsals

First off, Thank you everyone for your honest feedback, be it good or bad. Appreciate it.

Anyways, a quick update cuz I’m uber tired right now. Just got home from our first day at NDP rehearsals 2007. We (me and my ex cosmoprofm classmates) were pretty contented on going, cuz we recall how much we enjoyed last years one. Sitting in the air con stadium, everything neatly arranged, all the people organized.. but today, it was totally different!
To start things off, it was all in tents, and it was a lil messy at first, with us having to move to different locations, and finally being able to settle down. It was totally different also cuz we were under the warm sun, having to not only pain on the children’s faces, but try to settle them down too. Its funny, how i always thought children loved face painting! But the children here were giggling and arguing with each other to go first, till their teachers mantained the order.
We finished a lil later compared to last year, but as usual, we were overwhelmed with a sense of accomplishment. =]
We rewarded ourselves with the free KFC meals , and took the bus back to the school where we all went our separate ways, contemplating if we were coming back for it next week.
Some pics for your viewing pleasure =]

Work Ethics

ethics : –plural noun;
-that branch of philosophy dealing with values relating to human conduct, with respect to the rightness and wrongness of certain actions and to the goodness and badness of the motives and ends of such actions.

Work Ethics, rightness and wrongness. When dealing in a business, you get your fair share of shortcomings. But how do you know when you’ve stepped over the line and caused rightness to turn into wrongness?
My passion as a Professional Makeup Artist has turned into a business. A business that I hope reaches greater heights, in the future and takes me places. I do not expect smooth sailing, and God knows I’ve had to overcome obstacles, to finally be where I am today.

I’m not here to preach about work ethics, or about righteousness. This entry is mainly to ensure my current/future clients understand what are the correct ways of booking someone’s services.

If per say, you want to cater food for an event, You would call up a catering company and confirm your date of booking (some companies even require deposits). You wouldnt say that you are “not to sure” or that you “think” you want it on that required day, or even use the word “TENTATIVELY”. Because the next customer that comes along, and confirms the date and/or decides to pay a deposit, would most likely be given priority.

Thus a note to people who look to book me or any other person’s services: Do not use the word “Tentatively” as it only suggests you being unsure. It doesnt mean you have CONFIRMED anything. So how wrong am I, when a client tells me she wants to tentatively book me on the 18th August and gets back to me weeks later and only then emails me that she/he wants to confirm the booking, and I inform him/her that another client has already booked and paid a deposit for the 18th August?
Why does he/she insist that I have no work ethics and was irresponsible when he/she had probably made the mistake of choosing the wrong word (”tentatively” instead of “confirmed”)?
But did I ignore him/her and let the issue slip by? No, I sent her many sincere apologies and EVEN went on a hunt to look out for other makeup artist with a great calibre, and told her I would top up any additional charges if those makeup artist charge a higher price than what I charged.
But of course, still not satisfied, she insults my work ethics and tells me she will never recommend me to anyone else.
She even asks me how I would feel if someone were to cancel on me? I had few clients who waited till the day of the event, to cancel on me. This totally puts me off cuz I take the initiative to take leave from work, or cancel other events, just so I can help someone out to look good. So if you ask me, I’d say my situations were far more worse.

What more can I possibly say? *sigh*

I guess just as the saying goes… “The customer is ALWAYS right”

Please let me know what you guys think about this issue.
Good or Bad , I’m open to comments.

DhoolNight -Saree Queen Competition

Apparently there’s a Dhool Night tonight at Yuhua CC. I had no idea till a girl had booked me to do her makeup for the Saree Queen Competition.

I instantly recognized her. Syaheerah. I first did her makeup last year during NDP 2006. She was one of the street walkers also seen as hip hop dancers. And then few months back I had spotted her in Seventeen Magazine as one of the contestants for a pageant.

So I did her makeup , but didn’t stay for the show as I was already way exhausted from lugging around my makeup train case all around Jurong. But a huge Thank you to my darling Sumi for helping me around Jurong, and for helping to tie the Saree for Syaheerah.

Just 3 pics, as it was nearing time for the girls to start.

EDIT: Just got news from Syaheerah that she won 2ND PLACE in the Saree Queen Competition!! Congratulations Syaheerah! :) Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
