Makeup Brushes
Posted by sarah | Filed under Tips & Tricks
One of the questions I get asked alot, are about Makeup Brushes.
Everyone know’s for the most precise makeup application, brushes are needed.
When I first started doing makeup (on myself), I began with my fingers. Whether it was for foundation or eyeshadow, I remember my fingers being covered in every colour imaginable!
I know alot of people still use their fingers for makeup application.
It’s not wrong.
But there is a better option: Makeup Brushes.
Here are my reasons as to why you should try to use makeup brushes
1) Hygenic purposes of course. Especially if you’re helping a friend with her makeup application. I strongly doubt she would want your figners all over her face!
2) Our fingers will leave streaky marks (sometimes not totalyl visible) as we have fingerprints and applying foundation or any creamy product onto the face whilst using the fingers to spread the product, will only end up with streaks. For foundation its best to use a sponge.
3) Also we tend to pull the skin when we use our fingers. This is not recommended especially for sensitive area’s like your under-eye area which is rather delicate.
4) As much fun as it is dipping fingers into colours and applying them onto your lid, brushes will still give you the most precise and accurate application.
With that being said, here are some of my highly recommended brushes!
Please note that these are graphics taken from the Mac Cosmetics website, mainly to show you the SHAPE of the brush. If you can find a similar brush shape elsewhere, do purchase them. Reason being , as much as I adore Mac Cosmetics, the brush prices aren’t very wallet-friendly to all. Their brushes can range from $20 to $120.]
Also make sure your brushes feel SOFT and FLUFFY, and their bristles do not shed easily.
For your Face:

POWDER BRUSH: Get a big, round and fluffy brush for your overall powder application. It’s very important to ensure the brush is soft as this brush is used very swiftly over the entire face.

BLUSHER BRUSH: For application of colour onto your cheek. Some people prefer an angled brush but I feel a regular blusher brush like this, works fine for blusher application as well as sculpting the jawline
For your eyes:

ANGLED BROW BRUSH: To fill in your brows. an angled brush is always the BEST compared to any other straight brush, when it comes to brows.

SPOOL: A spool is something you would recognize from mascara wands. However its also used to even out colours in brow application.

EYESHADOW BRUSH: A flat brush like this is very useful when applying eyeshadow colours onto your lid. Always apply in a dabbing motion. I would recommend getting 2-4 flat brushes like these, some of different sizes so that you can use one brush for dark colours and one for lighter shades.

BLENDING BRUSH: A long fluffy brush is the best you can use for blending. You can blend effortlessly with fluffy brushes

CREASE BRUSH: This isnt your regulat flat straight brush. As you can see, its fluffy AND angled! This is one of my favourites for application of eyeshadow into the crease and outer corners. It also doubles up as an amazing blending brush
For your lips:

As much as its easier to slick on lip products with the given wand, sometimes its hygenic to use a brush as others may share the product. Also, its more neater and precise to apply lipstick with a fine lip brush.

Photoshoot with part-time Harper’s BAZAAR stylist-assistant

A couple of weeks back, I received an email that left me totally shocked as well as thrilled!
It was from Adriel, a part-time stylist-assistant for Harper’s BAZAAR - Singapore.
I just froze the moment I read HARPERS BAZZAR! Then I composed myself and went on to reading the rest of the email. He told me he was looking for a makeup artist as he was building up his Portfolio and had seen my work and was ‘greatly impressed’ (in his own words).
The shoot was a very high end fashion one and if you all know my style of makeup, its always bold and loud!
I just received the photo’s today. Thank you so much Adriel
