Invited for Shiseido Exclusive Interactive Workshop
Posted by sarah | Filed under Daily Bread, events
Yesterday was such fun! I think it was possibly the most FUN workshop Ive attended. All the other events I get invited for, doesnt encourage much interaction, but this workshop did, and I thank PEARLIN for the invitation, and IRIS of Shiseido for holding it ![]()

Iris of Shiseido ran us through the stuff for Shiseido’s latest spring collection, as well as their new matte foundation.
My opinion on some of the products:
EYESHADOWS: Colours appear too soft for my liking. But I like their slight gld undertone. I have yet to try them out on my own self, to give a final verdict. However colours, even though they were soft, were pretty much pigmented when swatched. (SGD43 EACH)
LIPLINERS: OH I LOVE! I have a weakness for lipliners! and these are SO creamy, they simply glide on! Im not a fan of the brush at the other end, but I would totally get the lipliners cuz of their strong colours that glide on so creamy, and dont dry out the lips!
LIPSTICKS: The lipsticks came in two types, TENDER SHEER and GLOWING MATTE. The Tender sheer was a pleasant surprise to me. Especially on SUPER dark brown lipstick, that came off as a REALLY sweet berry shade! So for people like me, who don’t favour too much colour on the lips, the tender sheer is indeed a great option as you get a hint of colour, without going overboard. The matte lipsticks were pretty normal. Creamy, yet matte. I liked the neutral shades! (SGD43 EACH)
LIPGLOSSES: Iris mentioned how they had some special gel formula to it, thus it wasnt soo sticky, and she was right. I tried on my goodiebag lipgloss later that night, and didnt find it too sticky or tacky on the lips. Various pretty shades, but of course I favoured the neutral shades best! (SGD 39 EACH)
EYELINER: OMG! Ok i didnt get to try any colour other than black but DAMN i loved the intensity!! SUPER RICH BLACK!! and after a while, I tried to wipe, but it didnt smudge! I will definitely be purchasing this soon!!
BLUSHERS: Soft colours with nice golden udnertones. MY absolute fav! I love soft colours for blushers and these came in really sweet soft shades. There also were two highlights. One was white, one was a natural shade. Both were lovely, but I like the white, cuz it looks MATTE but when you swatch it, you see how it has such a lovely sheen to it. AWESOME for highlighting the cheekbones, nose etc. (SGD56 EACH)

See the subtle gold undertones??

Lovely soft shades, and on the bottom LEFT, the white and neutral shade highlighter/bronzer

PRETTY lipgloss shades!!

Glowing Mattes

Tender Sheers

See how DARK the lipstick looks, but what a lovely soft berry-ish plum swatch you get

Lipliners ♥

Black eyeliner. So rich!!!

Iris gave us a sneak peak into some upcoming collection Palettes! SO PRETTY!!

There was also Shiseido’s professional hair team there to do some styles on us, as well as share some knowledge with us on some of their professional hairstyling products
Getting my hair styled

REVIEW: ELIZABETH ARDEN Pure Finish Mineral Powder Foundation
Posted by sarah | Filed under Daily Bread, events

Nothing beats coming home to a package! Especially a package thats got MAKEUP awaiting you!
Elizabeth Arden sent me Elizabeth Arden’s new Pure Finish Mineral Powder Foundation for a review.
The last time I got sent for an Elizabeth Arden product review, I wont lie, I didnt like the product. Ok well not that I didnt like it, I just never saw much (or any) results. So I didnt bother blogging about it.
But I was too darn excited to try out this new Mineral Powder! Infact, I got it yesterday evening and immediately used it on two ladies for their trial makeup. It was amazing! SO NATURAL looking! and today I started using it!! It comes with a really cute tiny brush, but PElizabethArden was sweet enough to send me the full sized brush too (OMG SOFT!) So I decided to keep the brush for the use on my clients and the lil powder puff for use on my own skin as I always prefer a heavier coverage.
Taken from media release:

You know how media releases of ANY product always makes you go “WOW” by just reading it, well rest assured, this powder PROOVES it too.

So basically its a pressed powder below this ‘grinder’, and you twist it, and the powder gets nicely grounded, so you get just the right amount, each time. I know when dealing with loose powder, it can get very hectic. Ive had instances when clients accidentally topple over my whole tub of loose powder and everything goes to waste. ![]()
So this little design is a very unique and waste-free design! I LOVE IT!

Do check out the Elizabeth Arden counters for your shades! My perfect shade was #2!! So fret not if you’re a lil darker/tanned, cuz they have up to shade #9!

DISCLAIMER: Product was sent to me for a review, and I did not pay for it. Im not obliged to say anything nice for the review, so whatever you read, are my own honest opinions.
MY THOUGHTS: I have been using MAC’s studio fix for pretty much all my makeup life (thats about the past 5 years?) and when I go to work on most days, I just slap on concealer and powder. and by mid day, 12pm, my skin looks oxidised and dry cuz Im in the airconditioned room. With this new Elizabeth Arden powder, I KID YOU NOT.. my skin looked fresh even at 5pm! I was AMAZED. I merely touched up my gloss and was on my way out. I will be continuing to use this for another week but so far, I like what I see. The only thing I DISLIKE is the size. TOO bulky to fit into most small sized makeup pouches.
RETAILING at SGD58.00
WILL I BUY IT AGAIN? YES! In fact I want to buy the various shades, darker tones especially to use on my darker/tanned clients! Im simply in AWE!

Makeup for MANJA MAGAZINE
Posted by sarah | Filed under events
MANJA MAGAZINE celebrates its 10th year and I feel honoured to have been able to do makeup for an article in this issue. The Editor contacted me to ask if I could come up with 4 different party looks. Of course I said yes! Especially since it was for me to decide the looks! I decided on one classic red lip look, one flirty pinkish look, one edgy eyeliner look, and finally the glamarous smokey eye look.
Manja Magazine(its a MALAY magazine, for those who arent aware) hit the stands today(21stJan)! (Free cute wristlet too!)

BEHIND THE SCENES:

KENT BRUSHES
Posted by sarah | Filed under Daily Bread, events
I received an email a few weeks back from RogerKhor of Velvut Singapore. Velvut is the exclusive Singapore Distributor of KENT BRUSHES. He was kind enough to email me to ask if I was interested to “give the brushes a spin(no obligations for returns or reviews)”.
“Kent Brushes was founded in 1777. Kent holds a pre-eminent place in the history of brush making, with an unbroken record of excellence in the quality of its production which has been recognised by the granting of Royal Warrants for nine reigns.” -www.kentbrushes.com
I did a little research online, and accepted his offer.
**DISCLAIMER: I received this set of brushes absolutely free, and am not obliged in anyway to do a review. and neither am I paid for this. Whatever you read are my own words, unless otherwise quoted. And if you read my blog, you’d know I’m pretty frank. If I like something, I will tell you why I love it. If I dont like a product, I will express my dislike openly**
I received their 12-piece cosmetic brush set.
I have yet to try them out (as I just received em today!) but Im eager to , and will share my review on these brushes, once I have tested them out!(Details taken from the Brush Packaging)
In the meanwhile, here is a closer look at the 12 brushes:
KENT also sells hairbrushes/combs etc and is retailing at selected WATSONS outlets in Singapore, so do check em out! Velvut’s ONLINE SHOP.
As for these brushes, they are currently ONLY AVAILABLE for sale online at
You can either purchase the individual brushes, or the whole set of 12!
The set of 12 brushes is regularly priced at SGD373.80 but for a limited time, it is going for SGD249.00 !
Yes, I know its pricey, and I wondered if people would consider buying the whole set. But in all honesty, the pricing of the individual brushes, are rather reasonable. You may wonder why they’re so expensive, or how come their pricing are almost similar to other high end brands. Well, I guess you wont know till you actually try them out for yourselves. I will try it out over a few occassions and will report back tou guys!!
Check out the brushes : LINK
and stay tuned for my review!
FacesBySarah & Memsaab Fashion Show
Posted by sarah | Filed under Daily Bread, events
20th December 2009, Dhoby Gaut’s Xmas Carnival showcased a fashion show organized by me, for FacesBySarah and Memsaab.
(You can purchase the brilliant outfits at Memsaab, Selegie Centre. Just enter the building, and go up the first flight of stairs. You cant miss it!)
BACKSTAGE

Showtime!!

My unexpected appearance on stage. They presented us(me and owner of Memsaab outfits) with a bouquet, which my sister had sneakily and lovingly bought and told the models to hand to me when I came on stage! I WAS SO SHY!!

And then we had to walk to the other stage (where the BOOTHS were, and they conducted a mini interview!

Overall, the experience was overwhelming! From the panicky moments of replacing models, rushing to get the models out in time during their change, to the lovely moments of being called up on stage to be thanked for the show. It was an amazng joint effort. I couldnt have done it without these people:
Aunty Shahidah- Owner of Memsaab boutique
She was very co-operative and took the time to plan and discuss the outfits for each model.
Maala Sashi
An old friend, who painstakingly took time out of her busy schedule to fit me and the girls in, to have a rehearsal for the catwalk, and trained each and every one of the models with the walking and turns.
My 9 models: Arveen, Alafiyah, Eyn, Eli, Sapna, Saras, Fiona, Jaishree, Preeti
Thank you all for your time, your patience, and most importantly, your faith in me. Especially with the models, who took this on at the last minute. I truly appreciate your effort! The show may have been hectic backstage, but the show went professionally and very smoothly from the audience viewing. You ladies did a brilliant job!
My family & friends
For their endless support. Guiding me through, keeping me sane, and coming down to support me on my special day.
2009, has been a busy year, but it has been filled with amazing memories that will last a lifetime
With that, I bid farewell to 2009, and thank you ALL for the support, and hope you will continue to instill your faith in me in the years to come.
Have a blessed and Happy New Year, everyone!

Launch of Adidas 2010 collection
Posted by sarah | Filed under events
I did makeup for an event last week at VivoCity. It was for Adidas, and they had a line up of footballs in glass casing, and on the stage, curtains covered a big replica of a football. It was the official unveiling of “Jabulani”, the Official Matchball of World Cup 2010.
Apart from a beatboxer and awesome samba dancers, there was a fashion show where the models were showcasing the latest Adidas World Cup 2010 Collection.I had a fun time, especially because the models were a fun bunch. The guys especially. Joking around with us, camwhoring and dancing!
The show began only at 12midnight (yes, we were outside Vivocity at midnight dng makeup and hair.LOL). This is because, apparently it was happening at the exact same time for all countries worldwide and there was a live feed from all the countries (Including Singapore) to South Africa cuz S.Africa is next yr’s host country
Onto the pics! (courtesy of Faz )
Invited for opening of THANN @ Orchard ION
Posted by sarah | Filed under events
Thann opened its first concept store at ION Orchard on 30th November.
I was invited for its official opening. Now I have to admit, I wasnt all that keen cuz I am totally not a skincare/spa person. I would go head over heels for makeup but for skincare, I’m on the fence. Of course at some stage in my life, I need to worry about my skin, but for right now I’ve been using PREVAGE(in the midst of using so will blog in a week or two).
LADIES , you MUST head down to THANN to atleast HAVE A LOOK. First of all, their store had this fabulous NATURE theme to it, and made the whole ambience all the more ‘at ease’. We were given a tour of the store, by one of the lovely sales assistants there, and she pretty much left me and wiwit in awe with so many products that appealed to us.
Here is why I like THANN:
– Its not just about aromatherapy products, it has natural skincare products as well.
– Thann is the FIRST brand to use the extracts of SHISO (a traditional Japanese plant known for its healing & antioxidant properties) as a key ingredient for their skincare products.
– Their products are suitable for both MEN and WOMEN
– The products are VERY reasonably priced!

I love how they cater to the different skin types

Our lil goodiebag
Oh and they were having 20% storewide for that day only, so I knew I HAD to take advantage of the discount! I skimmed through the shop and thought about what to buy. Then I recalled one particular item that I was instantly attracted to!!

AROMATHERAPY SHOWER GEL
I honestly cannot explain in words, how brilliant this smells! The scent of peppermint and eucalyptus oils as you shower.. OH WOW! I just bought this on 30th Nov, and my bottle is already two-thirds gone!! Because my brother is also sneakily using it! WHO CAN RESIST THE SCENT!!? And it only retails for SGD20 only, ladies. PURE LOVE!

They have some pretty cool GIFT SETS right now for XMAS too

Oh and for those not in Singapore, fret not, Thann is available worldwide!
Asia (Brunei, China, Indenosia, Japan, Malaysia, India etc…)
Europe( France, Germany, Portugal, Sweden, Poland etc…)
Australia, Canada & Mexico!

Launch of a New Local Makeup brand!
Posted by sarah | Filed under events
Its started off as an online shop, and this new brand, though local, has become a hit with me in less than 4 hours! Its pretty much NEW (few weeks/mth old) and Im sure many have not heard of it.
I was called to do makeup for a shoot for them last weekend and I tried their products.
Only one item was a miss(the concealer) but everything else was a huge hit for me!
Im not gng to post the brand name out yet. (No its not UrbanDecay or any fancy overseas brand, but it has proved that locals can do a fab job as well!)This is just a teaser :D
To be honest, I have ALOT more that I took of the products but I didnt want you guys to find out YET so here are some pics of the shoot
I made sure you guys you cant see the name!! ![]()
(But the black tubes reminded me of Givency. Its the exact same shape/size and the compacts reminded me of bobbiBrown. So alot of high end brand inspirations yet, this is a local brand…. am I teasing you too much yet?? )
There were 3 of us makeupartists and we had 2 looks each to create.

My lovely model Anna Lim
SO STAY TUNED FOR THE NAME OF THIS NEW LOCAL BRAND, THAT WILL DEFINITELY TURN SOME HEADS!

WHAT ARE ‘YOUR’ VIEWS ON TESTERS AT MAKEUP COUNTERS?
Elizabeth Arden Private Bloggers event
Posted by sarah | Filed under events
Last night, a few of us beauty bloggers were selected to attend the private launch of the Prevage Anti Aging Moisturizer by Elizabeth Arden. The product hits our Singapore counters next week! (Takashimaya only apparently)
Prevage has launched a new product, an anti aging moisturizer with an SPF 30! I’m not going to go much into the product till I myself have ‘tried and tested’ it. I was a little skeptical about it at first because, ….well, lets face it, I’m obviously a makeup person… I’m not a skincare person at all! The only skincare I use is my Neutrogena facial wash that helps remove all traces of makeup each night before I go to bed! But the workshop last night left alot of us ladies, very impressed with the Prevage products. It basically is more of a clinical product, rather than cosmetic. What I mean is basically underlined in their tagline : “PROOF, not PROMISES”
Some of you may be asking, “anti aging?? at this age??”
Prevention is better than cure ![]()
And as a makeup artist, to be honest, makeup can only do so much for you. At the end of the day, you wash off your makeup, and see your naked face, THAT is what should make you smile. Our skin is like a canvas. And if the canvas is not even, not clean, then no amount of makeup will provide any long term difference. Dark circles, fine lines, eyebags, wrinkles , dark spots… as much as they can be concealed with makeup, it provides a short period of satisfaction. Taking care of your skin FIRST, will ensure a longer term satsifaction.
Over the next few weeks, I will try out the Prevage anti aging moisturizer, and will do my review on this blog, providing my honest opinion/feedback on the product. So stay tuned!
For now, I leave you with some photos from last night :
Me and Wiwit. (You might recognzie her as one of the other Youtubers featured with me in Urban newspaper few months back

Finally got to meet Nadia. One of my favourite bloggers (www.nadnut.liquidblade.com) We’ve been in touch for almost 2 years now so it was a nice surprise to see her there
